Prototype Repository (developed by CNRI)
- A description of the architecture of the prototype repository
developed by CNRI for the NDLP is provided by An
Architecture for Information in Digital Libraries, an article by
William Y. Arms, Christophe Blanchi, and Edward A. Overly of
CNRI in the February 1997 issue of Dlib magazine.
[ at http://www.dlib.org/dlib/february97/cnri/02arms1.html ]
- Structural
Metadata for LC digitized materials describes the current elements
of structural and administrative metadata expected to be integrated into
a repository for LC digitzed materials. Not all these elements are
represented in the CNRI prototype repository.
- The prototype repository uses handles instead of internal identifiers
and invokes a Handle Server for retrieving component objects.
- The prototype repository incorporates mechanisms for managing access
to individual digital objects. The model used is described in Implementing
Policies for Access Management, an article by William Y. Arms of CNRI
in the February 1998 issue of Dlib magazine.

much more formal description of the concepts behind the repository
