NDLP Glossary - F
- Fibre Channel -- Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL)
- A high-speed data-transfer technology, designed for higher performance
than SCSI. FC-AL is an ANSI standard that supports delivery transfer
rates of up to 100MBytes/sec, with up to 126 devices on a single loop.
Over single mode fiber, connections can be several kilometers in length.
The Library of Congress is building an Enterprise Storage Network based on
this technology, to support effective and reliable access to large
volumes of digital content with associated services for backing up,
restoring, and archiving data.
For more information about Fibre Channel and FC-AL, see:
- framework
- Assemblage of title or "home" pages that present an American Memory

records, background information (such as scope and content notes or
bibliographies), and special "programs" that introduce the collection.
This is an LC usage of the word introduced by Carl Fleischhauer (see Frameworks and
Finding Aids: Organizing Digital Archival Collections.
