EAD

Encoded Archival Description, an SGML document type definition (DTD), which is under development as a standard format for electronic finding aids, registers, and guides to archival collections. LC is the maintenance agency for the proposed EAD standard. Some examples of finding aids marked up using this standard are available from the EAD Finding Aids at the Library of Congress.

Among the other institutions and organizations playing an important role in the development of this standard are Berkeley, the Society of American Archivists(SAA), and Duke University.
