browser
An informal, generic term used for World Wide Web client software. A common variant is web-browser. Examples are: Browsers for personal computers are often supported by external viewers for different types of digital object, such as documents marked up in SGML, TIFF images, or digital sound recordings.
BWS
Bibliographic WorkStation. The Library of Congress workstation for catalogers. It consists of software modules and specified configuration for a personal computer running OS/2. The BWS software was developed to emulate the specialized terminals used earlier to access the MUMS cataloging system. These terminals were based on the IBM 3270 terminal architecture and provided support for extended character sets, diacritics, etc.
