AudioSourceMD Extension Schema.
AudioSourceMD contains administrative metadata that describe an audio source item,
regardless whether the source item was analog or digital.
AudioSourceMDType: ComplexType for a audio source item.
The AudioSourceType is used to describe the characteristics of an audio source item.
An audio source item is defined as the tangible analog or digital source item from which
a digital audio archival object is created . AudioSourceMDType contains the following elements:
1. bits_per_sample The number of bits in a digital audio sample i.e. quantization e.g. 16, 24;
2. calibration Information about the calibration of the audio source item;
3. channel Number and information about channels/tracks (e.g., 2-trk, 4-trk, 8-trk, etc.);
4. data_rate Information about the mode and data rate of audio files in Kb/s e.g. 16, 44.1, 96 etc;
5. duration Duration of audio source material in time i.e. HH:MM:SSSS format;
6. equalization Equalization system inherent in source recording, e.g., RIAA, DIN, Nagramaster, etc.;
7. groove Groove type of audio source, e.g., microgroove (for lp) or lateral groove;
8. gauge The gauge or width of the audio source item e.g. 1/4 in, 1/2in, 1in;
9. language The predominant language spoken in the audio source item e.g. English, French;
10. length Length of audio source item in feet;
11. material Info about the physical medium e.g. base material, binder, surface, oxide, stock brand;
12. noise_reduction Noise reduction system inherent in source recording, e.g., Dolby, DTS;
13. number_carriers Number of carriers containing the audio source item;
14. sampling_frequency The rate at which the audio was sampled e.g. 44.1KHz, 96KHz, etc...; 15. slate Announcements that existed in the source batch or sub-batch of this recording; 16. sound_field Aural space on source recording, e.g., monophonic, stereo, surround, etc...;
17. speed Recording speed and adjustment for source audio, e.g., 15 ips (tape) or 78 rpm (disc).
AudioSourceMDType: Complex Type for encapsulating within a single
parent element the individual audio source elements that describe an object or portion of an
object. But note that the individual audio source elements that comprise the
AudioSourceMD schema can be used independently of a audio source element and directly under a
METS mdSec.dmWrap element. The individual elements that comprise an audio source element
are documented under their corresponding types. AudioSourceMDType has 2 attributes,
ID: (XML ID)
AUDIOTYPE: the type of audio source item e.g. open reel tape, CD, wire recording, wax cylinder, cassette.
bits_per_sampleType: Complex Type for recording sample size of
an item or portion of an item. bits_per_sampleType has a single attribute, ID (XML ID).
calibrationType: Complex Type for recording the type, location and information
about calibration data for an item or portion of an item. calibrationType has 2 attributes,
ID: (XML ID)
FIELDTYPE: qualifier of the type of calibration metadata contained in the element.
- calibrationType: type of calibration data e.g. tones, etc....
- calibrationLocation: IDREF to XML ID of pointer to location of calibration data e.g. Mptr, FLocat, etc...

channelType: Complex Type for recording the channel configuration used
in an item or portion of an item. channelType has 2 attributes,
ID: (XML ID)
FIELDTYPE: qualifier of the type of channel metadata contained in the element.
- channelTrackQuantity: the number of channels of audio e.g. 1, 2, 4, 5
- channelTrackFormat: information about the track format e.g. 1/4- trk, 1/2- trk, full-trk, etc...
- channelTrackInformation: information about the channel and track configuration
data-_rateType: Complex Type for recording the data rate (e.g. 1.5 Mbps, 4Mbps, etc...)

MODE: mode of data rate i.e. Fixed or Variable.
durationType: Complex Type for recording the duration
of an item or portion of an item. durationType has a single attribute, ID (XML ID).
equalizationType: Complex Type for recording the equalization specifications or
characteristics of an item or portion of an item. equalizationType has 1 attribute,
grooveType: Complex Type for recording the type of disc groove
of an item or portion of an item. grooveType has a single attribute, ID (XML ID).
gaugeType: Complex Type for recording the gauge (tape width)
of an item or portion of an item. gaugeType has a single attribute, ID (XML ID).
languageType: Complex Type for recording the language
of an item or portion of an item. languageType has a single attribute, ID (XML ID).
lengthType: Complex Type for recording the length (in feet)
of an item or portion of an item. lengthType has a single attribute, ID (XML ID).
materialType: Complex Type for recording the physical characteristics of the
construction and material of an item or portion of an item. materialType has 2 attributes,

FIELDTYPE: qualifier of the type of material/construction metadata contained in the element.
- materialBase: type of material used in the recording substrate e.g plastic, glass, metal, vinyl, etc...
- materialBinder: type of adhesive used to bind the recording surface to the substrate
- materialSurface: the type of recording surface aluminium, celluloid etc....
- materialOxide: type of oxide used on the recording surface, e.g. cobalt, chromium dioxide, ferrous oxide
- materialStockBrand: name of the manufacturer of the recording medium, e.g. Scotch, Maxell, Sony, etc...
noise_reductionType: Complex Type for recording the type of noise reduction used
in an item or portion of an item, if any. noise_reduction Type has a single attribute, ID (XML ID).
number_carriersType: Complex Type for recording the number of carriers
(containers) of an item or portion of an item. number_carriersType has a single attribute, ID (XML ID).
sampling_frequencyType: Complex Type for recording the sampling frequency
of an item or portion of an item in pixels. resolutionType has a 1 attribute,

slateType: Complex Type for recording the announcements accompanying the
item or portion of an item. slateType has a single attribute, ID (XML ID).
sound_fieldType: Complex Type for recording the aural space of the
item or portion of an item. sound_fieldType has a single attribute, ID (XML ID).
speedType: Complex Type for recording the speed and speed adjustment of
an item or portion of an item. speedType has a single attribute, ID (XML ID).
