Beginning this month, the Cataloging Policy and Support Office (CPSO) will be updating approximately 600 subject authority records. These are reference records (008/09 = "b" or "c") containing a General See Reference in field 260.
Fixed field 008 position 11 (Subject heading system/thesaurus) will be changed from "n" (Not applicable) to "a" (Library of Congress Subject Headings). These records, although not authorized for use as headings, are an approved part of the Library of Congress Subject Heading system.
Records containing the change will be distributed after September 1, 2000.
