MDS-Canada Encoding Level '3' Records

Up until recently CDS was unable to process records emanating from The National Library of Canada that contained an encoding level (Leader 17) value of '3' (Abbreviated Level). The National Library of Canada has created a retrospective file of the encoding level '3' records and made them available to CDS. CDS has processed the retrospective files and they are now available to MDS-Books Canada subscribers. MDS-Books Canada volume 28, issues 01 through 04 contain approximately 80,000 NLC encoding level '3' records created/updated from 1996 through 1999.

CDS is still working on a software modification to accommodate the newly configured NLC control number and hopes to resume distribution of the weekly MDS-Books Canada files containing current cataloging soon. We will provide catchup files once the fix has been tested and installed.
