Coding Corrections in Subject Subdivision Records

The Library of Congress is engaged in correcting the coding of 008/15 "Heading use-subject added entry" from value "a "(Appropriate) to value "b " (Not appropriate), and 008/33 "Level of establishment" from value "a " (Fully established) to "n" (Not applicable) of subdivision records (18x).

Due to unfortunate circumstances these values were incorrectly set at the time the records were first created in 1999, and subsequently. As of March 6, 2006 approximately 900 records have been redistributed with the corrections.

Beginning with the MDS -Subject Authority distribution, vol 21, no. 14 (March 28) the remaining 2,500 of the 3,600 subdivision records will be reissued with the correct values in the 008 field, approximately a few hundred records each week.
